Where Did this Story Come From?

Parents and Children, Teachers and Students, Librarians and Bookworms – They all love this story!

One day a few years ago, our family was having a nice supper, but the boys were enjoying being silly and playing games more than they were enjoying eating their food.

So, we made eating supper a silly game, too.  It started with the cantaloupe on the table – what would get them to take a bite? I asked, "What animal might eat cantaloupe?" Why, an antelope!

And so it began.

We listed out every possible animal and food combination we could think of, and created a little song about it. Most of the animals and foods made it to the book, but there were a few that didn't.

Like the Frog that ate the Yule Log – it didn't make the final cut because nobody really eats Yule Log, and the illustrator didn't know how to draw one. We searched far and wide, and couldn't find anyone who had even seen a Yule Log. So, no frog in this book.

Go ahead and see if your favorite animal is in the book!
